Starting off a Summer of Beer in Portland

In Portland, Oregon, beer festival season is upon us - and it's going to be a good one!
Kicking things off is the 6th Annual North American Organic Brewers Festival in North Portland. With over 50 organic beers to try you will be sure to find a brew to your liking and maybe even some new favorites. Beers in this year's festival hail from Colorado, Utah, California, Hawaii, Washington and Oregon with exotic names like Organic Acai Berry Wheat, Yerba Mate Black Lager and Flower of the Gods IPA. Of course they have more standard brews on tap such as the People's Porter from Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing or Pike Brewing Co's Naughty Nellie Golden Artisan Ale.

In addition to organic beer there will also be organic food vendors, a full schedule of live music and sustainability-oriented vendors to enjoy while taking in the views of downtown Portland from Overlook Park.
What makes this festival so decidedly "Portland" is its goal to be the most eco-friendly and sustainable beer festival in North America. Beer will be served in reusable and compostable corn-based cups made from domestically grown corn. Waste bins will be divided and clearly marked for trash, compost and recycling. All food vendors will be using compostable plates and utensils. Not to mention that the power needs for the event will be supplied by a combination of biodiesel and solar generators.
There is no charge for admission, but there is a $6 fee for your reusable corn-cup as well as $1 per token. Full glasses are 4 tokens, but you can try a 4 oz. taste for 1 token.
