Deschutes Brewery Releases Its Once-A-Decade Ale: Jubel 2010

Welcome Jubel 2010! Below is the latest from Deschutes Brewery. Enjoy the story behind the "Super Jubel" discovered by Gary Fish.
-- BEND, Ore.Deschutes Brewery, the sixth largest craft brewery in the nation, announces the release of its first Reserve Series beer for the New Year and decade, Jubel 2010. Jubel 2010 is a deeply dynamic presentation of the flavors found in its festive winter seasonal, Jubelale. Available on tap around the holidays at its pubs as “Super Jubel,” February 2010 marks only the second time the Brewery has ever bottled this immortal libation. The first and only other time this special brew was bottled was to celebrate the new millennium as Jubel 2000. Jubel was discovered by accident two decades ago when a clumsy burglar didn’t realize the weight of his stolen keg of Jubelale. He dropped it outside to freeze in the season’s sub-zero temperatures - only to be discovered the next morning by Gary Fish, Deschutes Brewery owner. More than half the liquid in the keg had frozen and the remaining beer was a very cold, highly concentrated “Jubelale on steroids.” It was so good that the brewers set about recreating it, coming up with an annual “Super Jubel” that is aged in Oregon oak pinot barrels. A limited amount of Jubel 2010 will be available in 22 ounce wax-dipped bottles and on draft all over the west this February. Beer Geek Information: • 10% Alcohol by Volume (ABV) • 55 International Bittering Units (IBUs) • Serving Temperature: 50-55 degrees F • Glassware: Snifter or Goblet • Drink one now and cellar one to enjoy a year from now. About Deschutes Brewery Located in beautiful Bend, Oregon, Deschutes Brewery is in the business of daring people to expect more from their beer. That's why we started off in 1988, on the banks of the Deschutes River here in Bend, Oregon, by selling Black Butte Porter at a time when others were sure a dark beer would never catch on. Our brewers love to push the envelope, especially if it makes someone nervous. But for us, the highest praise is a raised glass and a toast of "Bravely Done!" For more information about Deschutes Brewery and its courageously crafted beers, please visit www.DeschutesBrewery.com.
Cheers!

3 Facebook settings you should check right now

Are you scared of Facebook yet?
You may have noticed that Facebook periodically rolls out new and creepier privacy settings (which have yet to be challenged in court -- that's the caveat. Limited use copyright for all content? I'll be surprised if that holds up).
Luckily there is a strong community of netizens and bloggers dedicated to reading the fine print every time Mark Zuckerburg makes a change.
The 3 Facebook Settings Every User Should Check Now Unfortunately, most Facebook users likely opted for the recommended settings without really understanding what they were agreeing to. If you did so, you may now be surprised to find that you inadvertently gave Facebook the right to publicize your private information including status updates, photos, and shared links.
After reading this article, I went into my Facebook account and realized I had given Facebook permission to share all my status updates with search engines. When did that happen?
This easy breakdown from the NYT/ReadWriteWeb is a must-read. Follow its instructions -- and then make sure your kids do, too.

Wow! We LIKE this! Facebook comes to Prineville

This is exciting news not just for our client, Brooks Resources, and their Prineville community IronHorse - but for Oregonians in general. We guess the powers-that-be at Facebook realized what we’ve all known for years: Prineville has an irresistibly high quality of life that appeals to a wide range of people. That’s why this social media giant has chosen our town as the location for its new data center…plus we have a great spot at the airport for their new 117,245-square-foot building. According to an announcement earlier today, the Facebook project will initially bring 200 construction jobs to the area for the building of its new facility. In about two years, when the facility is complete and up-and-running, at least 35 skilled, family-wage jobs will be permanently relocated to Prineville. This is great news for our local economy and another reconfirmation that we live in the best place on earth! IronHorse is positioned to become a great home base for our new friends at Facebook! The only neighborhood of its kind in Prineville, IronHorse has plans for a variety of residential housing options, plans for a public school site, a neighborhood commercial center, and more than 250 acres of parks and open spaces. We have something perfect for everyone – both Facebook transplants and native residents. That’s a definite “thumbs-up” for all of us!

Bend Oregon Shopping Center Displays New Sculpture by Greg Congleton

Bend, Oregon’s Old Mill District displays “Liberty Belle” for a limited time Bend, Oregon – A fabricated, one-of-a-kind sculpture by Central Oregon artist Greg Congleton is on display in Bend, Oregon shopping center, the Old Mill District until March 2010. The steel piece entitled “Liberty Belle” features the Statue of Liberty made from recycled parts. It is currently located at the north end of Powerhouse Drive, near Orvis Bend, in the Old Mill District. “Public art is an important facet of our culture in the Old Mill District,” said Noelle Fredland, marketing director for the Old Mill District. “We are grateful to get a chance to display beautiful work from a talented local sculptor like Greg Congleton. ‘Liberty Belle’ is so intricately crafted and interesting to study – many of our visitors are having fun trying to figure out all the parts and pieces that went into her creation.” The piece is comprised of a variety of recycled metal items. For example, an old wood burning stove makes up the base of the sculpture, a bicycle sprocket is used in the torch, and scissors and sheep shears are used in the crown. Other recycled items used in the sculpture include a muffler, horse shoes, drills, auger, spoons and forks, aerator tines, a rake, wagon tire and lever door handles. Artist Greg Congleton is a Central Oregon native with roots extending back to early homesteaders in the region. Growing up in the country, he learned young to “weld together solutions for all kinds of things.” He became interested in art as a child when he enrolled in an art correspondence course. His inherent talent and formal art training, coupled with nearly 30 years as a carpenter and builder gave him the skills to create the sculptures he produces today. www.gregcongleton.com About the Old Mill District The Old Mill District is one of the Pacific Northwest’s most distinctive and dynamic mixed-use developments. Located on 270 acres that formerly housed one of the largest sawmill operations in the world, the Old Mill District offers a rich history along with spectacular mountain views and scenic river vistas. 21st Amendment Craft Canned Beer to Fly with Virgin American

The choice of which airline to fly suddenly got easier.

21st Amendment Craft Canned Beer to Fly with Virgin America San Francisco, CA - Great craft beer on planes is finally reaching the blue skies, as the 21st Amendment Brewery is set to launch their Brew Free! or Die IPA in cans aboard Virgin America Airlines. Starting now Virgin America will serve complimentary Brew Free! or Die IPA, a hoppy, full bodied ale, in First Class and Main Cabin Select and the beer will be available for purchase in the Main Cabin for $7. "This is a huge day for beer drinkers looking for a full flavored craft beer while flying aboard Virgin America. The 21st Amendment's innovative approach of putting craft beer with unique flavors in cans partners perfectly with Virgin America, a brand synonymous with innovation, creativity and an emphasis on the customer’s experience," says Shaun O'Sullivan, Brewmaster and Co-Founder of the 21st Amendment. Brew Free! or Die IPA is brewed with some serious west coast attitude. This aromatic golden IPA starts with a sucker punch of six different hops to the nose, quickly balanced by a solid malt back bone. The Brewery’s top selling beer, this IPA starts big and finishes clean leaving you wanting more. "Craft beer in cans is better for the beer than glass bottles and better for the environment with a lower carbon footprint. Not only are cans lighter, take less energy to make, transport and recycled more often than glass, but they also don't allow light to reach the beer which can cause spoilage. You can also take cans to places where bottles can't go, like the beach, lakes, golf courses and of course airplanes," says Nico Freccia, Co-founder of the 21st Amendment. "We couldn’t be more pleased to partner with 21st Amendment. Our guests have been looking for an expanded onboard beer selection with more locally-produced micro-brews. We’ve received that feedback from many channels – including Tweets and Facebook posts received from 35,000 feet via our in-flight WiFi," said Porter Gale, Vice President of Marketing at Virgin America. "As the only airline with a touch-screen in-flight entertainment at every seatback that offers on-demand food and drinks, Virgin America is all about offering flyers more and better choices. We’re pleased to partner with another San Francisco-based company to elevate the typical in-flight experience above the ordinary." "The great side note and cool little twist about this story is the whole thing started on Twitter. I was flying aboard a Virgin America flight and tweeted about the amazing in-flight experience and later inquired about the possibility of getting the 21st Amendment beer on Virgin America's planes. One thing led to another and now we're drinking 21st Amendment's craft beer at 35,000 feet. Social networking, planes and beer go together," says Shaun O'Sullivan, a self proclaimed Twitter addict himself. About 21st Amendment Brewery The 21st Amendment Brewery Restaurant was opened in August, 2000 in San Francisco, California by co-founders Nico Freccia and Shaun O’Sullivan to honor the thousands of craft breweries that were wiped out during Prohibition. They recently started to package two of their award winning craft beers in cans, Brew Free! or Die IPA and Hell or High Watermelon Wheat . At the 21st Amendment Brewery, we celebrate the right to brew beer, the freedom to be innovative, and the obligation to have fun. For more information, please visit: www.21st-Amendment.com. About Virgin America: Headquartered in California and launched in August 2007, Virgin America is one of the fastest growing start-up U.S. airlines of all time and currently employs over 1500 people. Virgin America offers guests attractive fares and a host of innovative features aimed at reinventing air travel. The airline’s base of operations is San Francisco International Airport’s modern International Terminal. The airline’s new aircraft offer interactive in-flight entertainment systems and power outlets near every seat for electronic gear. Virgin America offers in-flight internet service on every flight and hosts the largest in-flight entertainment library in the U.S. skies via its touch-screen Red™ seatback system. In just over two years flying, the airline was named "Best Domestic Airline" in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2008 and 2009 Readers’ Choice Awards and Travel + Leisure’s 2008 and 2009 World’s Best Awards. Inspiration

If each day was approached with skillful grace, along with a smile of gratitude, then this post would not be entitled, "Inspiration." After reading this article about Carmen Herrera, I was given a taste of my own potential for my future. A breath of fresh air, in a way. Featured in the Arts section of The New York Times, Carmen Herrera headlines with "At 94, She's The Hot New Thing in Painting."
Ms. Herrera's late-in-life success has stunned her in many ways. Her larger works now sell for $30,000, and one painting commanded $44,000, amounts unimaginable when she was, say, in her 80s. "I have more money now than I ever had in my life," she said. Not that she is succumbing to a life of leisure. Ms. Herrera, because she must, continues to draw and paint. "Only my love of the straight line keeps me going," she said.
We hope Carmen Herreras story can inspire you to do what you love, and love what you do. No matter how long until others learn to appreciate your efforts. Enjoy and Happy New Year from all of us at Campbell Consulting!
